Nissan unveiled the all-new Teana in China on Tuesday, with the flagship model central to expansion plans in the world’s biggest auto market.Dongfeng Nissan showed the premium sedan to 1,000 journalists and dealers at Guangzhou, with executives from Nissan and Dongfeng at the event. China is key to building on the sustained success of the outgoing Teana, which has achieved more than 700,000 sales in the nation since its introduction locally in 2004, said Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer. “It doesn’t get any more important than this. This is the flagship of the Nissan range in China. This represents everything that we are about,” said Palmer, at the launch in Guangzhou. “It represents our innovation, technology, design and our expression of comfort. Basically, its an embodiment of innovation that excites.” The new, fully redesigned sedan draws on Nissan’s global development strengths, embodying the best aspects of the current Teana and the U.S. market Altima, which debuted last year. Fuel economy – and acceleration – are boosted by a new engine, matched to the latest Xtronic continuously variable transmission.A host of technologies, including safety features usually found in luxury vehicles and a new rear multilink suspension system, emphasize the Teana’s high-end characteristics. “We are confident because the new generation Teana is a stronger product. It contains even more of our efforts and we’ve done thorough preparations for it,” said Dongfeng Nissan Vice President Ren Yong. “We hope that with the launch the new Teana, it will bring momentum to dealers and for our sales. It will also allow customers to experience the benefits of the new Teana and return us to a position of strength.” China’s Teana, to be manufactured at Dongfeng Nissan’s plant in Xiangyang, Hubei province, is set to go on sale in the country next month.
