The radically styled Hyundai Veloster, which has one door on one side, two doors on the other side, and a rear hatch, will add a Turbo version for the 2013 model year. The 2013 Veloster Turbo was revealed January 2012 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. When it goes on sale this summer, the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo will compete directly with the Volkswagen GTI, the Honda Civic Si, and the Mini Cooper S. The 2103 Hyundai Veloster Turbo is built around a 1.6-liter direct-injection four-valve four-cylinder engine that will be rated at 201 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with 195 foot-pounds of torque available all the way from 1750 rpm through 4500 rpm, using regular gasoline. It uses a twin-scroll turbocharger that effectively separates the four-cylinder engine into two hard-working two-cylinder engines, with one intaking while the other is exhausting for best power and torque. While this engine delivers more than 125 horsepower per liter of displacement, and gives the Veloster Turbo a class-leading weight-to-power ratio of 14 pounds of car for each horsepower, Hyundai predicted it will also deliver an estimated 27 miles per gallon City and 38 mpg Highway when the final EPA ratings are posted. Both the air intake systems and the exhaust systems will be tuned to be louder than the standard 1.6 engine\'s, and the Turbo exhaust system will use twin centered exhaust outlets. The engine will be backed by a Hyundai-built 6-speed manual transmission or a Hyundai 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. The Turbo version\'s chassis will be upgraded with a sportier steering system with a quicker steering ratio and revised calibration for the electric power steering system. The suspension system, with McPherson struts front and a V-beam axle rear, adds 24-millimter front and 23-millimeter rear stabilizer bars for flatter handling. Tires on the Turbo are Korean Kumho Solus P215/40R18s on 18-inch alloy wheels. There is quite a bit more to the Turbo package, starting with its Turbo-only matte gray paint, the first matte paint ever used on a Hyundai product. The Turbo will be distinguished by a unique front fascia, fog lights and ground effects treatment on the front end, with its own projector headlamp design with LED accents, unique LED taillamps, and side mirrors with built-in turn indicators. Inside, the Veloster Turbo will differ from the base car with heated leather seats including a driver\'s lumbar support, a graphite black interior with blue Turbo accents on the seats, panels and headliner, and Hyundai\'s Supervision twin-TFT screen instrument cluster. A 450-watt, eight-speaker sound system will be standard, along with AUX and iPod inputs. Hyundai hasn\'t announced pricing, but we expect it to be in the range of $24,000-$25,000 fully equipped.
