The Toyota Supra has always been popular and now one owner has done a complete restoration of a 1983 model. Now that Toyota has just launched their all-new GT 86, we wanted to take a look back at one of the new car\'s spiritual ancestors. The Toyota Supra first launched in 1979 and was basically a better Celica, which was itself inspired by the legendary 2000GT. It was not until the Supra entered its third generation in 1986 did it become its own model, effectively separating it completely from the Celica. The first generation was powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six with 110hp and mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed auto.In 1982 the Japanese automaker completely redesigned the entire Celica lineup and the Celica Supra was then powered by a 2.7-liter with 145hp. Its four-wheel independent suspension was tuned and designed by Lotus and was also equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. And like the first generation, buyers had a choice between either a five-speed manual or a four-speed auto, each now with an overdrive gear.By the time 1986 rolled around, the Supra became its own model and retained its rear-wheel drive while the now smaller Celica went with front-wheel. Toyota also increased the Supra\'s output to 200hp thanks to a new 3.0-liter inline-six.The fourth and final generation launched in 1992 and was equipped with either a naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter with 220hp or a twin-turbocharged version with 276hp. The overall goal was to make the Supra into more of a high-performance sports car. Production finally ended in 2002 due to decreased sales and increased emissions regulations. But for now, we have the privilege to show all of you this beautifully restored 1983 Supra. Originally bought new in \'83 by the current owner\'s sister and brother-in-law, he has memories of driving around in it as a teenager with all of his friends.Sadly, his brother-in-law passed away suddenly several years ago and the Supra was set aside. Then in 2002 he decided to begin a full restoration. And after seven years of hard work, the job was completed.A lot of money and affection was put into this project such as the newly reupholstered seats, repainted exterior, and a rebuilt engine. The Supra now looks incredible and the owner and his family should be proud. And now that Toyota is back in the rear-wheel drive sports coupe market, we don\'t expect for the Supra\'s popularity to fade anytime soon.Photos courtesy of memories83
