Riyadh - Arabstoday

Saudi’s Ministry of Social Affairs has signed a SR132m (US$35.19m) contract to import 3,000 cars specifically manufactured for people with special needs. Dr. Abdullah Al-Yusuf, an official at the Ministry of Social Affairs, announced the details of the agreement, which was signed with Al-Jomiah Company, reported Arabic daily Saudi Gazette. Abdul Rahman Al-Matq, Director of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for Disabled in north central Buradiah, advised citizens to look out for fraudsters who gather money from physically-challenged people for these vehicles. The ministry will take harsh action against anyone found accountable of charging for these cars, he added. According to the ministry, the vehicles will be free of charge to those who suffer from mental retardation or severe deformity, belong to a family with inadequate means, live in a remote village, and have completed six years on the waiting list. Up to 37 centers have been established around Saudi to process all applications. Applicants that meet the criteria will be subjected to a medical examination at their place of residence, after which the ministry will confirm its decision to award the vehicle.
