Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd will be carrying out some early testing and prevention measures involving some 40,456 units of its vehicles produced in the year 2006 to 2008. In a statement today, it said it is informing owners of its Civic 2006-2008 year-model (YM), City 2006-2007YM and Jazz 2005-2007YM under a product update campaign, to implement preventive measures against undesired technical issues in the affected units. \"This is an early call for inspection and replacement, of which we believe could sustain the best product performance for customers in spite of the technical irregularities,\" said Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Yoichiro Ueno. Yoichiro said for the Civic model (16,537 units), it had been reported that affected units could experience oil leakage from the power steering feed hose, caused by deterioration from running in hot and humid weather. He said that although the affected units may not cause serious safety issues, the possibility of a technical breakdown might show in the future. Meanwhile, the City (20,949 units) and Jazz (2,970 units) models might see possible failure in the power window master switch, which under certain conditions, could cause a minor short-circuit resulting in a burnt smell, Yoichiro said. The Japanese carmaker will change the rubber material for the power steering feed hose on the affected Civic models to improve their heat resistance, while for the affected City and Jazz models, they will be replaced with a counter measure power window switch. \"All parts and labour charges incurred in the replacement work will be borne by Honda Malaysia,\" Yoichiro added. He said none of the current selling models were affected and advised owners of the units involved to send their vehicles to an authorised dealer as soon as they receive a notification. For more information and assistance, customers can call Honda\'s Toll Free number at 1-800-88-2020 or visit any authorised Honda dealer. Customers have been also advised to call for an appointment to avoid long waiting hours.
