Both Hyundai and Kia have been surprising us with each new car they brought out over the last few years. The biggest of them was the Hyundai Genesis Coupé which we found to be more fun to drive than a Mustang or a Nissan 370Z when we did a three-car shootout. But our only gripe was the design, which we thought could have been a bit more refined, especially the front fascia which had a tacky plastic grille. If these two images published by the Hyundai blog, the 2013 Genesis Coupé will leave no scope for complaints in the looks department. Clearly in line with the Korean carmaker’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language, the new Coupé’s face is strikingly similar to that of the Veloster with a larger hexagonal grille, sharper new headlights, a more sculpted bonnet and a redesigned bumper with LED-lined foglights. Out back, the taillights have been redrawn and so are the bumper and the bootlid. Overall, the new Genesis Coupé sports a more aggressive look than its predecessor. Although there’s no word yet on what’s under the bonnet, we expect the 3.8-litre V6 to be carried over with minimal changes. However, there are rumours of a turbocharged version of the powerplant being used in the new model. We’ll keep you posted on that…
