Rare Torana hatch to go under the hammer at Shannons MotorEx auction in Sydner One of only 100 built, this 'flamenco red' 1977 Holden Torana A9X hatchback was recently discovered under the house of its owner, where it had lay in storage for 12 years. As a collector of cars and automobilia, the late owner realised the car's future investment and, soon after purchasing it, stored it on blocks beneath his Sydney home. It remained there until his death and, although started regularly, was not once driven during his ownership. The rare and highly desirable car was produced by Holden in limited numbers, its lightweight bodyshell constructed to homologate the model for the Bathurst 1000. The A9X option pack was available on both SL/R 5000 sedan and SS hatchback versions of Holden's LX Series Torana. Among its many points of difference, the models featured a unique floor pan, necessary to accommodate a Salisbury 3.08:1 (2.60:1 optional) differential and rear disc brake arrangement, modified steering gear, which was bolted directly to the frame, a front spoiler with brake cooling ducts and a large bonnet scoop with reverse air intake. Shannons will auction the A9X in "as is" condition with no reserve at its July 24 MotorEx auction. Complete with a letter of authenticity from the A9X Owners Association of Australia it is expected the car will fetch between $80,000 and $120,000.
