Police said they shot and killed a wild boar in a western suburb of Berlin after the 260-pound animal injured four people, including a police officer. The boar apparently had been in a wooded area. It attacked an elderly man, biting him several times in the back and legs, Germany\'s Berliner Morgenpost reported Tuesday. The animal\'s next victim was a 74-year-old woman who fell on the pavement and injured her hip. A younger woman who tried to distract the animal was bitten in the leg and had to jump on the hood of a car to escape, police said. The boar headed back into the bushes before police arrived and was shot after it came out and attacked one of the officers. A spokesman for the Berlin forestry service said it appeared the animal had fractured its left front leg, probably when it was hit by a motor vehicle. Marc Franusch said injured animals react aggressively. It is estimated that as many as 4,000 wild boars live in the forests of Berlin.
