Strong winds and scattered showers yesterday produced pleasant weather conditions for people across the UAE. The weather was cloudy and winds blew at a speed of 60km/h in coastal areas and some interior areas at times. The brief rain and windy spells forced motorists to take extra care on city streets and highways. Light showers were reported in different areas of Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Thunder and lightning was witnessed in Tareif, Khalifa City, Sila, and Al Hayer, a town close to Al Ain. There was no rain in Al Ain city but cool winds blew and conditions were cloudy almost the entire day. Forecasters said the light rain had not ended the prolonged dry spell the country has been facing. Hazy \"We need sufficient rain that has yet to come,\" said a forecaster. \"It was good to have at least light and scattered rain since it has helped in reducing the amount of dust in the air. We, however, must pray for sufficient rain.\" Gusty winds blew over the Arabian Gulf reaching 71km/h and generating seven to 12-feet high waves. The sea is likely to remain rough as per the forecast for the next two days. The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the weather today will be hazy and partly cloudy at times in the northern emirates. The temperature will climb in the interior and western parts of the country. Winds are likely to be moderately rough in general but could become gusty at times, blowing up dust and sand.
