A storm hit the British Isles with high winds, rain and snow Tuesday, causing massive traffic disruption in Scotland. The new bout of bad weather came less than a week after a windstorm scoured Scotland and parts of Wales and Northern England. While the new storm was not as severe -- with winds of gale, not hurricane force -- it caused plenty of problems, The Scotsman reported. Richard Wilkinson, a former British ambassador to Chile, was among those suffering a weather-related injury, The Daily Telegraph reported. He was asleep in his house in Hampshire when a tree came down on his bedroom. In Scotland, major road bridges and the Tay Rail Bridge were closed by the storm. The A9, the major road through the Highlands, was blocked for 7 hours after a crash at 1 p.m. involving three semi-trailer trucks, a van and three cars. The storm also cut ferry service. Trains, especially in the Highlands, were canceled and some rail lines closed.
