Hurricane Lane was churning in the Pacific Ocean Monday more than 1,000 miles from the Mexican coast, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Lane, a Category 1 hurricane with maximum winds of 80 mph, was 1,180 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, moving north-northwest at 10 mph, the center said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory. No watches or warnings were posted. Lane was forecast to maintain its general track through Tuesday then gradually turn toward the northwest by Wednesday, forecasters said. Lane was expected to gradually weaken Tuesday, the center said.
