As the final preparations are made for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, a member of the COP18/CMP8 executive organising committee said he was proud that Qatar was hosting the Conference. HE Abdulaziz Bin Ahmed Al-Malki, the General Coordinator for COP18/CMP8 and Chairman of its Executive Organising Committee, visited the COP18/CMP8 office in Doha, as participants and journalists begin to arrive in the city for the pre-sessions of the Conference, which started at the Sheraton hotel on Monday. During his tour, HE Al-Malki spoke to staff and thanked them for their work in the run-up to the Conference. He also participated in meetings on the final preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which is being held in Qatar National Convention Centre from November 26 to December 7. He said: “Doha has actively been preparing for the Conference for a year. The preparations are now in their final stages. The mass transport system for participants has been organised and marked clearly with COP18/CMP8 branding. Our volunteers have been briefed and are waiting to welcome the delegates and visitors arriving in Doha. I am pleased with the hard work that the team has put in and I hope that their efforts will ensure the Conference runs smoothly.” The UN Climate Change Conference is the biggest event to ever be hosted in Qatar and the COP18/CMP8 organising committee has been working tirelessly to ensure that the Sessions run smoothly.
