China releases climate change report

China has released a report it says details its policies and efforts made in the past year to face up to the challenges of global climate change. The report, titled \"China\'s Policies and Actions for Addressing Climate Change (2012),\" was released in advance of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7 in Doha, Qatar. It outlines actions taken by the Chinese government to mitigate and adapt to climate change and documents measures to promote the building of low-carbon communities and advance international negotiation and cooperation on climate issues, China\'s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. During the 2006-2010 period, the aggregate energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product dropped 19.1 percent from 2005, equivalent to a reduction of 1.46 billion tons of CO2 emissions, the report said. China said it aims to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by a further 16 percent and CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by 17 percent by 2015.
