The proposed Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) Gas Pipeline Project has not progressed further due to several critical issues that are yet to be resolved, India’s Minister of State Monday informed the Lower House of the Parliament, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said. In a written statement, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan mentioned several tripartite, bilateral and ministerial level discussions have been held. “Several critical issues like the delivery point of Iranian gas, the project structure including project finance, guarantees related to safety of the pipeline and security of supply, pricing of gas, location of international seat of arbitration are yet to be resolved,” Pradhan told India’s Lower House. In view of critical issues remaining unresolved there has been no further development in this project, he said. The Governments of Iran, Pakistan and India are discussing the IPI Gas Pipeline Project since 2005. In the Phase I, 60 Million Metric Standard Cubic Meter Per Day (MMSCMD) of gas proposed to be supplied will be shared equally by India and Pakistan. In the Phase II 90 (MMSCMD) of gas is proposed to be supplied.
