President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday met with Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yousef Said.
During the meeting, Ismail briefed Sisi on the details of a new gas discovery, pointing out that the government plans to quickly develop the discovery to serve the domestic needs, Yousef added.
Italy's Eni has discovered gas reserves of up to 30 trillion cubic feet in Egypt’s offshore Zohr prospect, making it the largest gas discovery ever in the country and in the Mediterranean Sea.
The minister has also informed the president about the new agreements concluded by the government to search for oil and gas, the spokesman said.
Foreign investments in the field of petroleum exploration and production have been discussed at the meeting.
