The European Commission is considering holding another trilateral meeting with foreign ministers of Ukraine and Russia to discuss further steps to solve the gas debt and price issues until the beginning of August, EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger’s spokeswoman Sabine Berger said Thursday.
Last round of negotiations held on June 16 in Kiev brought no results.
The commission is also ready to send
observers if necessary to control how Ukraine executes its gas transit liabilities, Berger said, adding that at the moment, the gas transit via Ukraine to the EU is flawless.
The EU companies have the right to use gas that they bought from Russia’s Gazprom as they need, and may supply it to Ukraine in a reverse mode as well, Berger said, commenting on a recent statement by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller who has not ruled out the possibility of limiting gas supplies to companies, which will conduct reverse supplies.
