The Ministry of Energy will submit in the coming weeks an energy efficiency program to the government, in accordance with instructions of the president of the Republic at the restricted meeting on the impact of the drop in oil price, Minister of Energy Youcef Yousfi announced Saturday.
Yousfi made this announcement at a press conference held on the sidelines of his visit to the pilot wells of shale gas at In Salah (Tamanrasset), during which a reporter asked him about the steps the ministry intends to take to implement the measure enacted by the president of the Republic. President Bouteflika instructed the energy sector to promote the rationalization of domestic energy consumption, to strengthen energy transition through the development of new and renewable energy, and to increase research and exploitation of hydrocarbons, including unconventional ones.
Incidentally, Yousfialso spoke of an updating of the renewable energy program which, he recalled, plans to produce 22,000 mega watts of electricity from renewable energy (solar and wind ones) with a production forecast of electricity up to 30% from these energies by 2030.
The minister also argued no increase in electricity rates and fuel is planned by the government, adding the State will spare no effort to improve the living standards of the Algerian citizen.''
