The water situation in Egypt is difficult as each individual's share has been down by half, head of the water distribution sector in the Ministry of Irrigation Emad Mikhail said.
Egypt's water share is fixed at 55.5 billion cubic meters yearly but the consumption is increasing due to the growing population, Mikhail said in statements Friday.
The water share per capita is 600 cubic meters instead of 2,700, he said.
The international water poverty line is 1,000 cubic meters per capita, he added.
Mikhail asserted the importance of protecting water from pollution.
He said that there should be coordination between the ministries of irrigation and agriculture toward any reclamation plan.
