Algeria will build its first nuclear plant before 2029, declared Sunday in Oran Minister of Energy, Youcef Yousfi.
"Nuclear energy is not for soon, but we cannot ignore that it is a capital energy industry, likewise the other resources, devoted to our energy efficiency and our economic development," the minister told a news conference held on the sidelines of the International Conference of Gas Industry in Algeria.
"We are now preparing the experimental reactors and investing in the field of human expertise to reach this goal," he added.
Moreover, Energy minister regretted the waste of electricity, announcing an ambitious programme to reduce the consumption of this energy, "in both households and the industrial sector."
Concerning the issue of the development of the renewable energies, Yousfi has affirmed that the national programme will help acquire a basis of photovoltaic panels, "one of the best in the region and in Africa."
