Albania's Electricity consumption, which occupies the first place as a source of energy, continued to rise sharply during 2014, and after several years, it was marked a reduction in the level of electricity losses, Albanian National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) announced on Monday.
Household consumers increased consumption of electricity during 2014 by 10.2 percent more than in 2013. Electricity consumption in total by customers during 2014 rose by 10.1 percent compared with 2013 and the amount from 4,551 GWh to 5,011 GWh.
Increasing energy demand led to higher gross electricity imports during 2014 by 44.5 percent more than in 2013. Consequently, the export of electricity in 2014 fell sharply. Gross exports of electricity amounted to 288 GWh in 2014, from 1,425 GWh in 2013.
Compared to 2013, net losses in 2014 were down by 15.8 percent, or from 3,306 GWh to 2,783 GWh. This level of losses constitutes 35.7 percent of the quantity available for consumption.
