Members of the Executive Board of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) met in Sousse Monday to discuss, among other issues, a proposal to amend the treaty that established the AAEA. Anwaar Al-Sabej, from Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water, who chaired the meeting, underlined the importance of the issues to be discussed by the members of the Executive Board, which would be referred to the Ministerial Meeting of the AAEA. She called on member countries to discuss the AAEA's 2015-16 budget, and hoped the meetings would contribute to positive outcome that would serve the interest of the Arab countries. AAEA's Director General Dr. Abdulmajeed Mahjoub said the pan-Arab organization was keen on boosting scientific research and training in the peaceful usage of atomic energy, to be utilized in comprehensive development, agriculture, industry, medicine and water desalination. The five-day meeting would touch upon the nuclear research in Arab centers or in other countries like South Korea, China, the US and the European Union (EU) states. The Executive Board members will also discuss power generation, use of nuclear energy in water desalination, and cooperation agreements between the AAEA and Arab institutions
