The Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ministry announced that the lands planted with wheat reached 3.160 million feddans till now, adding that there are some other areas in number of governorates which are still being counted.
The lands cultivated with wheat hit this season about 3.159 million feddans compared to 3.378 million feddans in the same season last year, according to an official report issued on Monday.
Lands in some governorates are still being counted due to the heavy rains and floods that hit them recently, the report which is issued twice weekly said.
For his part, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Essam Fayed reiterated that the ministry seeks cultivating strategic crops, solving the obstacles facing farmers and providing seeds as well as needed fertilizers to develop agriculture in Egypt.
