The "Water uses in the Mediterranean Basin" Conference" started in Amman on Sunday.
The event is attended by Egypt, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Jordan and Palestine as partners to the European Union project for water.
The conference is organized by the Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Association in cooperation with Fostering partnerships for the implementation of best available technologies for water treatment & management in the Mediterranean (FP4BATIW) Project.
The gathering is attended by over 300 policy-makers, representatives from the world of water management, end-users, and international professional organizations from Jordan and European countries.
The workshop seeks to consolidate the existing synergies between researchers, industry and civil society in Europe and the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) to implement the best available technologies for water treatment.
It will create links to projects and ensure effective networking sessions between existing R&D programmes, funded by the European Commission as well as bilateral projects in the Mediterranean water sector.
During the conference, the participants will discuss regional strategies for addressing water problems in Jordan; problems, best practice and solutions outside the region; threats and opportunities for water in the agriculture sector, and nexus approach to environmental resources
Head of SMEs association Nedal al Samain said that Jordan ranks second among the poorest countries in the water domain.
