U.A.E. Environment and Water Minister, Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, has chaired the U.A.E. delegation in the first session of The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) in Nairobi, which runs from 23 to 27 June. The event draws 1,200 participants,100 ministers, and heads of international organisations.
The session, which will conclude today, focused on the objectives of sustainable development and development plans after 2015, including sustainable consumption and production.
The main theme of the Ministerial Plenary is how the environment is reflected in the global Sustainable Development Goals. The meetings will result in a strong proclamation that sends a powerful message on the importance of the environmental dimension of sustainable development to the UN s high-level political forum, and the UN General Assembly. In addition, the Ministers will discuss, among others, the illegal trade in wildlife.
Bin Fahd reviewed in an interactive session on the global Sustainable Development Goals, the social, economic and environmental benefits through encouraging green investments and activities in areas of renewable energy, efficient use of energy, restoration of ecological systems, waste management and environmental innovations.
He demonstrated the multi-studies conducted by the U.A.E. in line with the implementation of U.A.E. Green Development Strategy, noting that the U.A.E. adopted the green economy method, and specified six tracks covering all aspects of life.
