Sudan, represented in the person of the Minister of Environment, Forests and Physical Development, Hassan Abdul-Gadir Hilal, was elected Monday as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the UN Environment Program in its 27th session, during 2013 - 2015. The election of Sudan took place at a meeting of the General Assembly of UNEP in Nairobi. Sudan Ambassador to Kenya and its permanent envoy for the UN Environment Program, Kamal Ismail Saeed, said that the meeting was attended by over 100 ministers of environment and heads of delegations from all countries in the world. He said that Sudan was elected as the Chairman of UNEP Governing Council, while Japan, Norway, Brazil were elected as members and Poland was elected as the rapportueur.
