Kuwait's first Environment Week was launched on Tuesday under the slogan of "Know where it is." The three-day event is organized by the Arab Open University (AOU) in cooperation with Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS), Sadu House and the Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF).
Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Al-Homoud Al-Malek Al-Sabah lauded the AOU for organizing and sponsoring the event, as a leading educational institution seeking to develop an atmosphere of academic competition focusing on investing in human capital, as well as supporting science and knowledge.
Sheikh Faisal Al-Sabah stressed Kuwait's keenness on protecting the environment.
For his part, Director of the AOU Kuwait Naif Al-Mutairi said the branch has become one of the leading private universities in the country, thanks to its various activities and events covering several fields. He added that the AOU Kuwait attracts thousands of students annually.
Launching the Environment Week exhibition is part of the AOU responsibilities toward Kuwait and the Kuwaiti society, Al-Mutairi said, noting that the AOU shares vision and message with public benefit societies and civilian institutions, namely disseminating environmental culture.
The KEPS participation in the first Environment Week includes a photo gallery for the plants in the Kuwaiti desert, head of KEPS Wildlife Protection Committee Manaf Behbehani said.
He added that two lectures will be given on desert plants and the biodiversity on the Kuwaiti coast.
