Up to 60 tons of waste have been removed from Al-Judailiat coast , located close to Doha, on the first day of a week-long cleaning mission, head of Kuwait Dive Team Walid Al-Fadhel said on Monday.
The task is being carried out by the Kuwait Dive Team affiliated to the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF) in collaboration with Kuwait Municipality and the Cabinet committee tasked with the removal of encroachments, he told KUNA. Several volunteers took part.
The operation started in the early morning and the Kuwaiti Municipality is providing the necessary equipment to remove huge amounts of construction waste, old car tires and plastic items, Al-Fadhel said.
The area is a sanctuary for various species of migrating birds and various plants, he said, noting that work for cleaning the coast completely is expected to be completed in a week's time.
