Jordan will celebrate on Monday the World Meteorological Day, being observed this year under the theme, 'Climate Knowledge for Climate Action.'
The celebration will emphasize the vital role played by the meteorological services in the world by predicting weather and warning about the risks associated with such conditions, especially since 80 percent of natural disasters are caused by weather, climate and water.
Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department Mohamed Samawi told Jordan News Agency (Petra) today that the department will have new monitoring equipment , screens and other needed tools funded by Japanese government, estimated at JD1.75 million, which will be distributed to various regions of the Kingdom.
He also underlined that the JMD made rather distinguished progress last year, including concluding an international agreement with "Inter Root" company to continue the exchange of weather information between Jordan and rest of the world, and to install automatic monitoring stations in new locations, bringing the number of such stations to 13.
