The 11th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Conference opened today in Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman.
GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani attended the inaugural session, in the presence of ministers in charge of water affairs in the Arabian Gulf countries, experts and specialists.
Addressing the plenary session, Dr. Al-Zayani stressed the importance of water security as a cornerstone of joint action between the GCC member states.
He pointed out the keen interest of all GCC leaders in the sector of water, being vital to the lives of Gulf national and sustainable development march in member countries.
Dr. Al-Zayani underscored the mounting challenges which are facing the GCC member countries to achieve their water security, due to growing development needs, galloping demography, mismanagement and rising costs of water.
However, he underlined the ability of the GCC member states to surmount challenges relating to water security so as to ensure a sustainable and stable future for the coming generations.
