Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said Saturday that fisheries at the new Suez Canal will be opened in conjunction with the official inauguration of the mega project on August 6.
During a visit to Spain on Thursday, Mamish signed an agreement with a grand Spanish company to establish fisheries in Suez Canal area.
A new dredger has joined the 37 dredgers working at the project to remove 250 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand at a total cost of EGP15 billion, he told MENA.
After its opening the new canal would be the most important waterway in the world as 97 vessels are expected to transit the canal in 2023 compared with 49 in 2014 with anticipated revenues of USD 13.2 billion instead of USD 5.3 billion, Mamish said.
