Interim President Foued Mebazaa kick-started, on Sunday morning in the Belvédère park in Tunis, the celebration of the National Tree Day. On this occasion, the Caretaker President enquired about the report presented by Agriculture and Environment Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Jalleli, on the afforestation programme for the 2010/2011 season which helped plant some 8,373 hectares, and for the coming year some 21,560 hectares are to be planted. Besides, Mr. Mebazaa got acquainted with the programme of the Belvédère park preservation presented by Mrs. Emna Charfi, member of the "Association des Amis du Belvédère" (AAB). Speaking on behalf of the civil society, the official called to transform the park in a "classified historical monument". The aim being, she specified to block the road in front of the parties who tried and still try to get hold of this vital space. Took part in this ceremony in addition to Agriculture and Environment Minister, Mr. Salem Hamdi, Secretary of State in charge of Agriculture, the Governor of Tunis and the president of the special delegation of the Tunis municipality.
