Bee'ah, an environmental and waste management company, is running a competition on Instagram to raise awareness on the amount of waste generated in the U.A.E..
Winners of the competition will each win a Dh500 voucher from Sharjah Co-Operatives Societies.
Bee'ah will sculpt bales of waste into the shape of a car and ‘park' it in five Sharjah Co-Operatives Societies in different locations across the Emirate —Gharayen, Sweihat, Halwan, Khorfakkan and Kalba. Those who wish to participate in the competition are invited to take a photograph of themselves or their friends along with one of the bales, using the hashtags #SpotTheBale, #ActNow and #BeeahUAE.
Bee'ah will award the Dh500 vouchers to the three contestants whose submissions attained the most ‘likes' at the end of each of two fortnightly periods.
The first round will continue until November 6 and the second from November 7 to 23. Participants who will enter the competition will get to compete in a special draw to win an iPhone 6 Plus at the end of the contest.
Meera Taryam, Director, Environmental Services and Education at Bee'ah, said: "This competition is a real opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation, especially among our country's younger generations, who are the most active users of social media. Beneath the fun is a serious message: The U.A.E.'s waste generation at present stands at approximately 2.5kg per person per day — a figure which is among the highest in the world.”
To participate, Instagram users must be following Bee'ah's Instagram account (@beeahuae) and tag the account in their photo. They should also ‘Geotag' their image to show which of the co-ops the photo was taken at.
The competition commenced on October 23 and the last day users can submit a photo to be eligible for consideration is November 20.
