The Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary at the Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning, Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Khalifa, hailed the great attention of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He particularly lauded the huge efforts exerted by the National Initiative for Development of the Agricultural Sector led by Her Royal Highness in developing the agrarian sector.
Shaikh Khalifa said the Government Action Plan (GAP2015-2018) aims to begin implementation of prompt development mechanisms in the agricultural, animal and fisheries sector.
The land granted by the government of Republic of the Sudan to the Kingdom has been included in the national growth plan as one of the largest projects aimed to achieve food security for the Kingdom in the near future, he added.
The ministry has allocated the budget for the feasibility study in coordination with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), in order to begin investment of the 42,000 hectares fertile land, he added.
He invited investors to participate in investing Bahrain's land (aka Khairat Al Bahrain) in the Sudan to produce strategic products including animal fodder, cereals, as well as white and red meats. The products will be exempt from taxation in both countries.
Shaikh Khalifa told Bahrain News Agency that the Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning supports the development and training of farmers on modern farming techniques and development of the fisheries in the Kingdom.
