More than 6,000 volunteers took part in the biggest environmental campaign in the country at the weekend.
The Clean Up UAE event on Friday had participants from organisations, governments, students, families and individuals equipped with biodegradable rubbish bags, cotton re-usable gloves, caps and t-shirts, and they picked up about 20 tonnes of waste from around the Nad Al Sheba area of Dubai.
The 15th cycle of the annual national environmental event will continue over 10 days taking place in every emirate, said Habiba Al Marashi, chairwoman of Emirates Environmental Group.
"The core message of the event has not changed over the past 14 years but it is essential to repeat the necessity of preserving the environment by maintaining cleanliness, recycling and making this an integral part of the daily culture of the UAE society," Ms Al Marashi said.
