A good night’s sleep is one of the most important luxuries to deliver, but is often elusive for travellers. At Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts a “deluxe sleep experience” ranks among the top 10 attributes driving satisfaction and the likelihood to recommend to friends or stay again. From providing an aromatherapy turn down service to a warm glass of milk and soothing spa services, Four Seasons puts the “ooh” in snooze. “For more than 50 years, we have been speaking about the perfect sleep,” says Craig Reid, president, hotel operations, Americas, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. “As part of our brand promise, we strive to offer a ‘home away from home’ and turn our guest rooms into sanctuaries, with many of our guests purchasing our duvets, beds and pillows to turn their own bedrooms into a Four Seasons experience after a wonderful night’s sleep.” Four Seasons Hotel New York, for example, sells 600 pillows, 160 beds and 140 duvets a year. In addition to outfitting the room with a comfortable mattress and the ideal ventilation system to provide the optimal sleep for guests, many Four Seasons hotels and resorts have developed unique “sleep” offerings to support guests’ quest for the perfect slumber. Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, California in partnership with California Health and Longevity Institute has created a holistic approach to preparing for bed with the Sleep Well program, which includes therapies such as meditation and clinical hypnotherapy, spa treatments, menu choices and in-room features to help guests sleep well. At Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, sleep amenities are also available for little ones: a bedtime story butler will visit with a selection of stories to help children drift off to sweet dreams. Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaupulehu provides a special, customizable aromatherapy amenity; guests select their preferred scent at check-in and it is delivered each night at turndown. In Mumbai, sleepless Four Seasons guests are encouraged to try the Prana Bliss spa treatment, which was specially created using traditional ayurvedic practices to induce extreme peace, which leads to a rejuvenating slumber. At Four Seasons Hotel New York guests can request the traditional warm glass of milk, a cup of herbal tea or hot toddies before bedtime. A collection of “Deep Sleep” CDs is also offered to help induce slumber. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea offers a selection of perfect pillows - feather, foam, buckwheat, body, or orthopaedic. Additional “Sleep Well” aids include a foot soak in Ali’i Kula Lavender Farms bath salts, an iPod pre-programmed with “Sleep Well” music, short stories books, a warm cup of chamomile tea, and even a special “good night” yoga DVD are all offered. At Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris, some rooms are offering a “NightCove” facility to enhance the guest sleeping experience. Based on medical and scientific research, NightCove uses a range of lights and sounds to improve a guest’s sleep and wake-up quality. As a result, NightCove creates better daily energy for the body. At Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara, a sleep menu is offered to guests in suites. The menu includes pillow options, aromatherapy choices, comfort food options such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and a bath basket with electric votive candles, Champagne and a loofah.
