Versace announced the launch of the Étoile de la Mer eyewear collection for spring/summer 2012. The capsule series is composed of two sunglasses and one optical model. The signature piece featuring the new design concept was showcased in the spring/summer 2012 Versace women’s fashion show in Milan. Using a Versace siren who arrives in the city in the middle of the hot, hot summer as her muse, Versace’s Creative Director, Donatella Versace, designed the Étoile de la Mer collection to reflect the same mood as the House’s prêt-à-porter collection. For the spring/summer 2012 Versace advertising campaign Donatella Versace turned to the ultimate modern bombshell siren, Gisele Bündchen. In line with the collection’s sand and water theme, the campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott on location in an abandoned pool in a Californian desert. The campaign was art directed by Giovanni Bianco. Donatella Versace says: “Gisele was the perfect choice for this campaign. Her beauty is so bold in these images and she radiates true strength and sensuality. As an iconic beauty, she is also the perfect fit for the Étoile de la Mer eyewear collection. The images of her in the collection are stunning and powerful. This is exactly the vision I had when I started the design process.” The Étoile de la Mer collection will be available in Versace boutiques as well as through select retailers worldwide by March 2012.
