Shereen Shams, Al Ahly's executive manager, said that his team is entitled to hols its matches in the attendance of a large number of the club’s fans, noting that Al Ahly officials demanded security authorities to allow the attendance of about 10,000 fans in the team’s next CAF Champions League clash.
The Red Devils are set to start their quest for the ninth African title by facing South Africa’s Bidvest Wits in the round of 32, skipping the preliminary round.
Shams added that Al Ahly is one of the largest football clubs in the African continent and it is not acceptable to allow less number of fans to attend its match than other clubs representing Egypt in the tournament.
He pointed out that Al Ahly send a request to the Egypt security authorities to approve the attendance of 10.000 fans in the next match, adding that they should receive a written approval from security, 10 days before the date of the match, so as to submit it to the CAF.
Shams said that Al Ahly insisted to hold all its local and international home matches at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo, after the security authorities refused to hold Al Ahly games neither at Cairo International Stadium or Air Defence Stadium for security concerns.
