The Bank of Canada increased its key lending rate by 0.25 percentage points to 1.0 percent Wednesday as the economy roars back to life.
"Recent economic data have been stronger than expected, supporting the Bank's view that growth in Canada is becoming more broadly-based and self-sustaining," it said in a statement.
This was only the second rate hike in seven years, from a near-historic low.
