Europe must cover the US share of the budget for the UN's IPCC climate science panel, French President Emmanuel Macron said at UN climate talks in Bonn on Wednesday.
Much of the global effort to row back climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions was threatened, he said, by the Trump administration's decision to stop funding for intergovernmental climate bodies.
"I propose that Europe replaces America, and France will meet that challenge," Macron said to loud applause. "I can guarantee that starting in 2018 the IPCC will not be short a single euro."
