The Indian capital will observe Car-Free Day on Jan. 22 next year, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday.
"We will organize it in entire Delhi on Jan. 22 and I am very sure that we will succeed ... I will also cycle to my office on Jan. 22," Kejriwal told the media.
Car-Free Day is an initiative, first started in the wealthy suburb of Gurgaon, some 25 km from the national capital, to make the city pollution and traffic congestion free.
"If we reduce cars on the roads of Delhi, pollution level can come down significantly in the national capital," the chief minister told the media.
He added: "I am not saying that the entire Delhi will follow our appeal and if 5 or 10 percent of people follow our appeal, 10 percent pollution will come down."
