Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker asserted on Thursday the power failure crisis was resolved thanks to the joint efforts made by the oil and electricity sectors over the past few months.
An urgent and ambitious plan to increase the productive capacity of the power plants was drawn up, the minister said.
A total of 6,882 megawatts will be added to the national grid in 2015 as well as finalizing all maintenance works necessary to power stations and networks nationwide, Shaker added.
The minister called for improving and rationalizing the energy to make good use of major investments allotted to establish new power plants and networks.
He made the remarks during the celebration held by JW Marriott Hotel Cairo on the occasion of transferring the lighting system at the hotel into light-saving bulbs system.
The new lighting system aims to improve the energy's efficiency and rationalize the use of energy in all aspects of daily-life and thereby reduce the emissions that cause climate change and global warming, he asserted.
The electricity ministry has approved an ambitious plan to upgrade the efficiency of the lighting system in various sectors, including the sectors of residential buildings and public lighting as the lighting accounts for about 25 per cent of the total energy consumption at the national level, the minister stressed.
