Head of the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority Dr Atef Abdel Hamid asserted that the authority played a vital role in the promotion of the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Africa.
These remarks were made by EAEA chief during the opening of a regional training course for African Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technolgy (AFRA) that was opened earlier in the day with 29 trainees representing 19 African countries attending.
EAEA Chief said spreading the culture of nuclear sciences and techniques among the African countries will certainly maximize the use of such techniques in the future when the African states decide to launch peaceful nuclear projects for the service of their societies.
He said this session coincided with the 25th anniversary of AFRA establishment and the 59th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian Nuclear Energy Committee.
The countries participating in the course include Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Cameron, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, Mauritius, Uganda, Sudan, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Niger.
