Cairo Governor Galal Saeed said Saturday the government continues the implementation of a plan to support and develop the public transport system, modernize and double the transport authority's fleet and all its facilities and stations, as a main way to transfer citizens in Cairo and an effective method to eliminate overcrowding in the capital streets.
In a statement, the governor said that the plan also aims to ensure the provision of a better service for citizens of the Greater Cairo, especially the low-income level to feel positive results through their daily activities.
"We will focus on receiving modern environment-friendly vehicles, equipped with some modern services," he added.
Saeed said that a decision was taken to allocate the two front seats in all public transport buses for the elderly and people with special needs.
"Banners will be put on those seats and periodic inspection campaigns will monitor the implementation of these instructions," he added.
The government and Cairo bodies are keen to provide all services and equipment to engage all categories in the community, especially those of special needs, the governor said.
