George Wassouf has firmly denied to Arabstoday that he has cancelled concerts in Lebanon and throughout the region as a result of his stand on the current situation in his homeland, Syria. Wassouf is a firm supporter of Syrian President Assad. Wassouf confirmed in a telephone interview that the rumours that suggested that he had cancelled concerts are false. He also maintains that he was not contracted to host a concert at the Mövenpick Beirut during Eid that was cancelled because of fans’ boycotting him. Wassouf laughed off the rumours and said that: “they (the media) have to think of a more believable lie because everyone knows the amount of love between my fans and I.” The singer has recently sold his house in the Al Rabieh area East of Beirut for a change of scenery, and intends to purchase and move into a new home by winter.
