Egyptian actress Elham Chahine has expressed her happiness over the prison sentence issued against Sheikh Abdullah Badr, telling Arabstoday it was “a victory,” not only for her, but for “everyone who has been abused and attacked by this person.” “This judgment,” the actress said, “is evidence that this preacher has erred against me and against everyone he has insulted.” Directing her words to Badr, Chahine said “Did the religion in whose name you claim to preach order you to ‘Call to the path of your Lord through wisdom and good advice?’” she said, quoting from the Koran. The actress also denounced Badr’s behaviour in recent days and his “abuse” of all media personalities and artists, saying “no-one” had been “safe from his tongue.” She also expressed surprise at his disregard for the law, adding that she had anticipated the judgment.
